A tradition started in 1997, honoring a loved one’s memory by naming a street after them, is being done again this year.

The Amboy Civic Organization (ACO) is accepting sealed bids until April 19, 2024 to name the street north of the business district. The sign will be hung on May 1 and will remain with the honored name for one year. The sign will then be given to the successful bidder.

Currently the street, Cecil Harrison Way, is named after Cecil Harrison. Previous honorees were Bill & Lillie Kant, Makenzies Way, Cliff & Pat Weller, Allen Zip Sensenig, Bob & Mary Welty, Avery Lovgren, Jake Metzen, Gary Hart, Howard & Ruth Shaw, Douglas Blaine, Louis Grasser, Doug Antoine, Dave Yentzer, James “Mort” Hinkle, James Mead, Bob Smith, Lisa Nauman, Dave Payne, Dale Etheridge, Elmer “Rocky” Sensenig, Arnie Stahr, Bob Machen and Jeff “Bodine” Bonnell.

The money raised will be given to the Pankhurst Memorial Library. The minimum bid is $200 and will be accepted at the Amboy City Hall.
