AMBOY – The June 17 meeting for the Amboy City Council was uneventful.

There wasn’t a disaster.

There weren’t negative issues discussed.

Instead it was full of praise and reports of positive action happening in different areas through the city.

Alderman Bill Bontz reported the Amboy Lions Club Disc Golf Course at Amboy City Park was finished and was being played on. The Lions went on to hold a grand opening on Sunday, June 29.

Alderman Greg Noble, who is the chair of the library committee, shared the Pankhurst Memorial Library had been power washed. Also, Dominique Willahan was approved to join the library board of directors.

Amboy is getting ready for its MFT process for its streets as the city crew is preparing the streets. The Amboy sewer system has had a treatment for sludge and a second one is to be applied in early July.

When it came time for audience concerns, there wasn’t any, but Amboy City Clerk Melissa Eisenberg was commended for making posts on Facebook making citizens award of a group of solicitors in town.

Amboy Mayor Frank Stenzel said they were rude and pushy. The police department handled the situation as it told the solicitors to leave and not to come back.

A City of Amboy CD was up for renewal June 22. It was agreed by the council to renew for seven months at a rate of 4.75 percent.

Other financial news, Amboy approved the donation of $4,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks display scheduled for July 6.

“We put $4,000 in the budget every year to help provide a community event for the Fourth of July. It’s a community effort,” Mayor Stenzel said. “The Amboy Fire Department does a great job. We’re just proud that we’re able to help with the celebrations.

“Sometimes I’m out of son with family, but this year my family will be there for the Amboy Fourth of July festivities.”

During the mayor concern’s segment of the meeting, he had no qualms. Instead, he thanked the Amboy city crew for laying new cement at the community building, where the city council meetings are held.

“They did a fabulous job. The cement is all level and it looks great,” Mayor Stenzel said. “Everything in Amboy is running smoothly and it’s great to see the city working the way that it is.”
