AMBOY It was a solid start to the softball season for the Amboy Lady Clippers as they posted a pair of impressive wins on AHS’s home turf.

Amboy opened the campaign with a 10-2 triumph over conference foe Milledgeville on March 21.

The Lady Clippers took a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning and doubled the count to 6-0 in the third. Amboy scored a pair of runs each in the fifth and sixth frames, while Milledgeville only dented the scoreboard in the sixth with its only two tallies.

Three Amboy players collected two hits apiece – Savannah Ikens (two singles, two RBI), Kyleigh Donna (single, double, one RBI) and Noelle Jones (single, double, one RBI).

Bailee Highbarger got the start in the circle for the Lady Clippers and mowed down Lady Missile batters to the tune of 18 strikeouts. Highbarger gave up six hits and only walked one.

Amboy swatted the ball all over the yard and got another outstanding pitching performance from Highbarger as it cruised to a 14-0 win over Westmont in a game halted by the 10-run rule on March 23.

Highbarger was baffling in the circle as she fired a no-hitter and struck out 10 in the process. She did not issue a walk.

The Lady Clippers jumped out to a 7-0 advantage after the opening inning and added five more runs in the second to take a commanding 12-0 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth.

Alison O’Rourke had a perfect day at the plate, pounding out four singles in as many at-bats. She drove in two runs. Dani Hochstatter was also perfect at the dish with two triples, a single and three RBI.

Other offensive standouts were Jones with a single, triple and two RBI, Shannon Lytle with a single, double and three runs batted in, and Donna with a single, double and two RBI.
