BLOOMINGTON – The Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team opened up the season in the Lady Raider Invitational on March 3 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. The Lady Clippers were one of the five Class 1A teams competing in the 20-team event.
“This was a great way to start the year,” said A-L coach Bob Halberg. “We were running with a skeleton squad, but still competed.”
In varsity action, Ashley Althaus had the highest finish on the day with a fourth-place effort in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.14.
The 4x400 relay squad took sixth place with a time of 4:30.32. Making up the team were Cassidy Corcoran, Sidney Corcoran, Emma Lundquist and Althaus.
Other varsity results included Kelynn Boyle, eighth place in 3200-meter run at 14:10.64; and Cassidy Corcoran, 14th place in 400-meter dash at 1:07.77.
Margaret Vaessen turned in the best performance in the meet for the freshman-sophomore squad by taking second place in the 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:38.3.
Also competing for the Lady Clippers were: Brooklyn Whelchel, third place in 400-meter dash, 1:07.56; Vaessen, fourth place in 1600-meter run, 6:10.01; Sidney Corcoran, seventh place in 60-meter dash, 8.85; Whelchel, ninth place in 200-meter dash, 30.21; Lundquist, 10th place in 60-meter high hurdles, 12.06.
