AMBOY — The Amboy Clippers Baseball team opened the season with two losses last week.

On Thursday, March 15, the boys opened the season with a loss to Forreston. The game started the way the Clippers would have drew it up. Hunter Zimmerly retired the Cardinal hitters in order in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, with two out, Mitchell McLaughlin hit the first pitch he saw of the season over the right field fence for a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals finally got to Zimmerly in the third inning for three runs. He was relieved by McLaughlin, who gave up 7 runs in 4 2/3 innings. In the end, the Clippers fell 11-4. Justin Hart and McLauglin had two hits each, and Clayton Kemp had an RBI single.

On Friday, Amboy traveled to Mendota. Once again, the Clippers started strong, scoring three times in the first inning. Hart started the game and gave up 1 run in four innings. However, the Amboy relievers couldn’t hold the lead and ended the game with a 13-3 loss. Hart led the way with two hits, followed by Maverick Lindenmeyer, Zimmerly, McLaughlin and Reece Vaessen all with hits.
