The Amboy Clippers needed extra innings to take down Forreston, 8-3, in a varsity conference baseball game on April 8 at Forreston.
The two teams were tied at 3-3 after seven innings. After a scoreless eighth, the Clippers erupted for five runs in the top of the ninth to claim the victory.
Amboy totaled 15 hits in the contest, with Logan Whelchel (two singles, double) and Preston Henkel (two singles, double) collecting three hits apiece. Rapping out a pair of safeties were Hunter Zimmerly (single, double), Clayton Kemp (two singles), Maverick Lindenmeyer (two singles) and Mitchell McLaughlin (two singles).
Zimmerly started on the mound for Amboy and surrendered three runs over seven innings. He struck out 11. McLaughlin pitched two innings in relief to get the win. He wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in the eight by striking out the final two batters, and then fanned the side in the ninth.

Amboy went extra innings again and the Clippers prevailed, 5-4, in eight frames over Orangeville in conference action on April 9 at city park.
Orangeville carried a 4-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh when the Clippers struck for four runs to tie the game. Kemp and McLaughlin both doubled in the frame, Zimmerly, Lindenmeyer and Lane Boehle each had a single, and Hayden Montavon delivered a game-tying sacrifice fly.
Then in the eighth, Kemp led off with a double and scored the game-winner on a double by Zimmerly.
Amboy’s 11-hit attack was led by Kemp (three doubles), Zimmerly (two singles, double), Lindenmeyer (two singles) and Boehle (two singles).
Whelchel was the starting pitcher, going 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by Montavon, who went the rest of the way to get the win. Montavon struck out five, with no walks and no runs allowed.

Serena rallied in the late innings to nip the Clippers, 6-5, on April 12 at Serena.
Amboy got a solo homer from McLaughlin in the first inning, scored two runs in the second and added two more in the third on a two-run homer off the bat of Lindenmeyer to take a 5-4 lead.
But Serena got single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out the victory.
In addition to his homer, McLaughlin also singled in Amboy’s seven-hit attack.
McLaughlin was the losing pitcher in relief, while Lindenmeyer started and gave up four runs on five hits over two innings. Kemp threw three innings and permitted just one run.
