Clippers basketball team loses to three local teams

AMBOY — Earlville pulled away in the second half to post a 49-39 triumph over the Amboy varsity boys’ basketball team on Jan. 25 at the AHS gym.

After trailing by just a bucket at halftime (22-20), Amboy was outscored 10-6 in the third period to fall behind by six points heading to the fourth. In the final frame, Earlville’s Ryan Browder exploded for 13 points to seal the win for the Red Raiders.

Browder finished with 21 points and teammate Griffin Cook added 20. Brennan Blaine led the Clippers with 16 points and Kyler McNinch provided six markers.

The Polo Marcos defeated the Amboy Clippers on Jan. 26 in Polo, 36-18.

Eastland rolled up a 46-16 victory over the Clippers on Jan. 28 at Lanark.

Amboy was down by only three points (13-10) at intermission, but Eastland came out and scored 20 points in the third period and the Clippers only managed three to make the count 33-13 heading to the fourth. Amboy had another three-point output in the fourth quarter.

McNinch had seven points to top AHS scorers.
