Homecoming week was a blast with dress-up days, hallway decorating, skit night, the parade, and the football game. Even playing LaMoille in Volleyball on Monday night to start the week was great.

Throughout the week, the classes played against each other, with the juniors winning flag football, the freshman winning the hallway decorating contest, the sophomores winning the skit, and the seniors winning the spirit games and were the overall winners of the week. The students had a great time. Congratulations to the King and Queen, Quinn Leffelman, and Tyrah Vaessen.

The barn quilts in agriculture construction are moving forward, and students are working on getting them painted. Welding classes are still working on perfecting their beads before moving on to projects. Small engines are tearing apart two-stroke engines and looking for donations of old, non-working chain saws and weed eaters to take apart.

Mr. Michael Kolton, our school counselor, has been setting up opportunities for colleges to come to AHS to speak to students during homeroom or lunch. Black hawk College, Morrison Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Sauk Valley Community College have all attended, with many more to come. Students should speak with as many colleges as possible to understand all options.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) information night will be held on October 28 in the high school. Sauk Valley financial aid and a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be on hand to help get the process started.
