ERIE – Three Amboy-LaMoille boys’ track team members are headed to state after competing in the Erie Class 1A Sectional on May 18 at Erie.
All three of the Clippers’ state qualifiers finished second in their event. Thomas Stamberger is headed to Charleston after being runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.72. Travis Eames was clipped at the wire in the 300-meter hurdles and took second in a time of 42.64. Also placing second and on the bus to Charleston is Kyle Hunter in the shot put. He had a distance of 45-0.
Amboy-LaMoille’s other competitors also performed well enough to help the team to a second-place finish in the team standings with 81 points. Only Sterling Newman scored more points with 104. The rest of the top five included Bureau Valley (76), Morrison (74) and Erie (67).
The IHSA State Track Meet will be held May 24-26 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
