AHS announces its May Student of the Month


AMBOY — Abril Vazquez-Tapia has been named the Amboy High School Student of the Month for May. She is the daughter of Guillermo and Rosa Vazquez-Tapia. 

GPA:   3.35 /4.0

Memberships and Involvement: “I’ve been involved in band, chorus, theatre, Spanish Honors Society, Scholastic Bowl, Student Council, AYSO soccer, and volunteered at Teen Turf over the past five summers.”

Awards and Honors: Some honors include being Drum Major for two years, band vice president (junior year), band president (senior year), Spanish Honors Society secretary (senior year), and was Miss Amboy 2017. 

Some awards include the Kathy Mekeel Sparkle Award, Best “Chorus” Member in Shrek, and January Student of the Month and Student of the Year for the Health Occupations Class at Whiteside Area Career Center.

Best Memories of AHS: “Some of my best memories include directing the AHS Marching Clippers during football season, being involved in the theatre productions and making new friends.” 

Future Plans:  Attend Sauk Valley Community College and then transfer to Illinois State University to pursue my nursing and music degree.
