Win, win, win to start the new year for the Lady Clippers

After winning their Amboy Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament, the Lady Clippers didn’t want the tally marks to stop adding up in the win column.

The Excel spreadsheet stayed in the win column to begin 2024 as Amboy beat Somonauk, Fulton, and Freeport on the road.

On Wednesday, Jan. 3, the Lady Clippers (16-4) beat Somonauk 28-18 behind a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds from senior Meave Larson.

Senior Elly Jones had five points, sophomore Kiera Karlson tallied three, and junior Emily Sachs added two, while junior Tyrah Vaessen recorded seven rebounds and five assists.

Jones and Vaessen upped their scoring production to 15 points apiece in a 55-24 win at Fulton on Friday, Jan. 5.

Seven more Lady Clippers scored against the Steamers as junior Addison Pertell had seven, Larson five, Sachs four, freshman Alexa McKendry three, and juniors Kenley Wilson, Blanca Heidkoetter Mendez, and Gloria Parker added two points apiece.

Larson grabbed 11 rebounds, Jones dished five assists and snagged four steals, Vaessen hauled in six boards and Sachs had five rebounds.

At the Eastland Shootout on Saturday, Jan. 6, Pertell led the Lady Clippers with 15 points and five rebounds to lead Amboy to a 41-32 victory over Freeport.

In foul-heavy game (Freeport 15/Amboy nine), Jones and Larson added nine points apiece, and Sachs and Karlson scored four points apiece.

Vaessen recorded seven assists, five rebounds, and four assists, while Larson grabbed eight rebounds, Karlson had six rebounds and three steals, and Jones tallied five assists and five rebounds.
