Lady Clippers win two after dropping two

Two weeks ago, the Amboy girls basketball team dropped two hard fought games to rivals, Eastland and Ashton-Franklin Center.

However, the Lady Clippers (8-4) bounced back with victories against Hiawatha and Hinckley-Big Rock in the last week.

The Amboy squad traveled to Eastland on Tuesday, Dec. 5 where it suffered a 35-24 loss. Senior Elly Jones led AHS with eight points, juniors Tyrah Vaessen and Addison Pertell added six each, and senior Maeve Larson chipped in four.

On Thursday, Dec. 7 against AFC in Ashton, the Lady Clippers battled back after trailing 14-3 in the first quarter, 23-14 at halftime, and 28-19 after three quarters, but fell short, 30-25.

Jones tied and AFC player for a game high 11 points, while Larson recorded nine, Vaessen three, and Pertell two.

The Lady Clippers put the two losses in the review mirror and followed with a 58-15 win against Hiawatha on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Amboy and a 45-34 win against Hinckley-Big Rock on Friday, Dec. 15 at Hinckley.

Amboy had 11 players in the scoring column against Hiawatha as Jones led with 12, Larson had nine, Pertell scored eight, both junior Emily Sachs and sophomore Kierra Karlson tallied six, freshman Maddie Althaus came off the bench for five, junior Gloria Parker had four, Vaessen added three, junior Blanca Hiedkoetter-Mendez and sophomore Jillian Anderson both scored two, and junior Kenley Wilson made one free throw.

In the 11-point win over HBR, three Lady Clippers scored in double digits as Pertell had 12 and both Jones and Larson tallied 10 apiece. Sachs tallied eight, while Karlson had three and Vaessen added two.

Larson was two rebounds away from a double-double as she hauled in eight boards and had four steals. Vaessen filled the stat sheet with eight assists, seven rebounds, and five steals, while Sachs hauled in five boards, Jones tallied five steals and three assists, and Pertell snagged four steals.
