With the IHSA playoffs beginning February 19, the Amboy boys basketball team is running out of regular season to polish up its game.

Although loses have been mounting for the Clippers, improvements have been shown from individuals and the team as scoring production has increased and losing deficits have slimmed.

Amboy fell to Fulton, 57-24, on Tuesday, Jan. 30 as junior Quinn Leffelman scored eighth, junior Eddie Jones had seven, junior Joel Billhorn added six, and junior Kabe Daniels chipped in three.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, seven different Clippers put the ball in the hoop, but it wasn’t enough to beat Forreston as Amboy lost 54-31.

Leffelman led the team with nine points, senior Troy Anderson had eight, both sophomore Ezra Parker and Daniels had four points apiece, junior Brody Christoffersen added three, Jones scored two, and junior Carson Barlow pitched in one.

Two days later, Saturday, Feb. 3, Jones and Anderson had strong showings of 17 and 13 points, respectively, but Amboy lost to St. Bede Academy 55-41 in Peru.

Parker scored five points, while Leffelman and Billhorn added three points apiece.

The Clippers had a chance to end the losing streak on Monday, Feb. 5 against Milledgeville but the Missiles made nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to defeat Amboy 53-49.

Anderson and Jones scored 38 of the Clippers’ points as they tallied 19 points apiece.

Helping the cause was Leffelman with six, Daniels with three, and Christoffersen added two.
