AMBOY — In December, the Amboy Lions and the Amboy Leo Clubs combined to go Christmas caroling at the Mabley Center in Dixon. The Leo Club also did caroling at Amboy Maple Crossing.
The Lions Club started the 2019 year with a real shocker by distributing two AED devices. In the Club’s second round of AED donations to the community, the Lions donated AED units to the First Baptist Church in Amboy and Immanuel Lutheran Church. More than 25 church members attended the Jan. 31 training meeting. Attendees were trained on how to use the AEDs in emergency situations and were able to ask questions and get hands-on-experience with the device. The training was done by the AED supplier from Rockford.
On Jan. 24, Lion President Roger Wittenauer and Lion Jim Travi attended the Southeast and Southwest Zone Meeting at Barnacopia in Polo. They heard an excellent presentation on eye diseases and the effects of medications on the eye from Dr. Emily Richardson of the KSB Eye Care Clinic in Dixon. Dr. Kelly Klein will present a similar eye health talk at the Club’s March 11 meeting at the Community Center, 280 W. Wasson Road. The public is invited to join the Club for the presentation at 7:30 p.m.
The Amboy Lions Club Scholarship applications are now available at Amboy High School. These scholarships are made available to Amboy Seniors. Applications may be picked up from AHS Counselor Rob Wissinger. Completed applications must be back to Wissinger by 3:30 p.m., on Friday, April 5.
In other news, the Club will be sending members to the District 1-D Convention to be held in Freeport on March 8-9. A new Amboy Cub Scout Pack, which is being sponsored by the Amboy Lions, had poor parent attendance at the sign-up meeting due to inclement weather. Parents interested in signing up their children should contact Amboy Central Elementary School for further information on dates and times of future meetings. Rose Day is being organized. Rose Day and the Lions Draw Down are the two big fundraisers that help the Lions support community projects throughout the year. Watch for more information on our Facebook page and the Amboy News.
