Sylvan Leffelman to celebrate 90th birthday

DIXON — Sylvan Leffelman will celebrate his 90th birthday on Feb. 19, 2019. He was born in 1929 to Walter and Esther (Burkardt) Leffelman in his Grandma Burkardt’s farmhouse outside of Sublette.

Sylvan Leffelman to celebrate 90th birthday

DIXON — Sylvan Leffelman will celebrate his 90th birthday on Feb. 19, 2019. He was born in 1929 to Walter and Esther (Burkardt) Leffelman in his Grandma Burkardt’s farmhouse outside of Sublette. 

Sylvan graduated from Amboy High School in 1946 and attended the University of Illinois. He was drafted into the army in 1951 where he served two years during the Korean War. Sylvan married his beloved, Virginia Warner of Ashton on Nov. 14, 1953. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.  

Sylvan and Virginia raised their five children in Amboy while part owners of the Case-IH farm implement dealership, W.G. Leffelman & Sons. 

They are the parents of Jan (Tom) McConville, of Amboy, Phil Leffelman, of Elgin, Paul (Robin) Leffelman, of Amboy, Nancy (Jim) Butler, of Bartlett and Rita Leffelman, in heaven. They are the grandparents, of Rachel (Mike) White, Mitch (Meg) McConville, Maggie (Michael Daly) McConville, Damon (Alyssa) Leffelman and Lucas Leffelman. Their precious great-grandchildren include Kylie and Kaysen Leffelman and Leo McConville.

Sylvan has been involved in many civic and religious organizations throughout his life. He was a founding member and remains a strong supporter of the Amboy Education Foundation. Sylvan also enjoyed lecturing, distributing communion and teaching CCD at St. Patrick’s in Amboy. He has also served as a lector at St. Anne’s in Dixon. Sylvan is a proud member of the Amboy American Legion Post 453.
