The churches of Peoria have appealed to Governor Lowden, asking him to aid in the enforcement of laws against Sunday saloons and public gambling.

Perry Pool was in Sterling Sunday attending the annual picnic of the Sterling Typographical Union.

Retail milk dealers of Freeport have raised the price of milk to five cents a pint and nine cents a quart.

Rev. and Mrs. E.W. Kuethe have been attending the Rock River Assembly every day this week, driving up in their car in the morning and returning in the evening.

July 30, 1942

PFC Junior Nicholson has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Keay, that he is now “somewhere in Alaska, but could not reveal his location.

Miss Dorothy Brown and Miss Stella Cullen, two of the Amboy Central grade school teachers have resigned the position they held last year.

Dr. and Mrs. Gene Sullivan and baby daughter expect to return Sunday from their two-week vacation in Hayward, Wis.

There is at least one person in Earlville who is unperturbed over Washington’s reports that we may have to give up our automobiles. Coleman Kukuk will still have his goats. Traveling around in his little wagon, Coleman’s skill as a goat driver has become the talk of the town.

Aug. 3, 1967

In a very brief session, held in the sweltering council chambers, Amboy’s City Council Tuesday evening gave the cater committee power to act to have the city water tower inspected and repaired.

Thursday the Farmers State Bank of Sublette is hosting an open house in the newly remodeled and expanded bank building.

Mrs. Margaret Nelson last week received a letter from her stepson, Robert, now serving in Viet Nam. It was written July 21 from an aid station where he had been for two days. “My company was hit by the V’C’s three days ago,” he wrote. “A mortar round landed and exploded just 10 yards in front of me. I was hit in the head just a little by a fragment and was knocked cold.”

Amboy Food Market advertises ground beef, 2 pounds for $1, T-bones, round, and sirloin steak for $1 per pound and Oscar Mayer weiners 2 pound package for $1.

Gary “Tank” Jones was appointed interim head football coach at Monday’s Amboy Board of Education meeting.

Gov. Jim Edgar announced that farmers in 77 Illinois counties may be eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farmer’s Home Administration.

After two months of increases, gasoline prices fell slightly at pumps in Illinois, according to the AAA Chicago Motor Club’s latest Fuel Gauge survey.

Christmas carols in July? Amboy Area Chamber of Commerce members will be singing their favorite holiday tunes at O’Connell’s Yogi Bear Camp Resort Saturday.
