The Amboy Fire Protection District was awarded a grant from FM Global on Monday morning. Presenting a plaque and the check to Amboy Fire Department Assistance Chief Scott Wittenauer, pictured left, was Kipp Caputo, consultant energy for FM Global. Part of the grant will be used to purchase 250 smoke detectors with 10-year tamper proof batteries. The fire department plans to go door to door to equipment the residents with the new smoke detectors. They are also handing them out after being called to a residence and after checking to see if the home’s smoke detector is up to date. The second part of the grant will be used for planning software. The software assists the department in anticipating what the risks are should a fire happen in commercial buildings and downtown. (Photo by Tonja Greenfield)
