The island on the north side of Il Route 52 and Main Street in Amboy is disappearing. The Illinois Department of Transportation gave the City of Amboy permission to remove the north side island. Work began on the removal on Tuesday morning. The removal of the island will make it easier for trucks making the turn onto Main Street. At the February Amboy City Council meeting, Amboy Mayor Tom Nauman said that in one to five years, IDOT planned to redo the curbing, sidewalks and handicapped spots in the city and that at that time, the north side island at Main Street and Highway 52 will be removed.
