DIXON – Candidate for the Illinois 16th Congressional District, Sara Dady, attended a Candidate Forum, organized by Action for a Better Tomorrow Sauk Valley, on July 30 at the Post House Ballroom.

The forum was meant to be a discussion of issues by Dady and incumbent Representative Adam Kinzinger, but Kinzinger declined the invitation, according to ABT. The ABT decided to hold the forum without Kinzinger since Dady had already committed to attend.

The Illinois 16th Congressional District covers 7,918 square miles and all of Boone, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, LaSalle, Lee, Livingston, Ogle and Putnam counties and parts of DeKalb, Ford, Stark, Will and Winnebago counties. The staff scrambled to set up additional chairs when the crowd of nearly 200 exceeded the available seating.

“I’m happy that you came out to hear me explain why I deserve your vote to do this job,” Dady told the crowd in her introductory remarks.

Kathy Ferguson of the Lee County Health Department moderated the forum. Voters were asked to fill out cards with their questions and Ferguson chose which questions were put to Dady. Subjects discussed included the environment, foreign policy, immigration, healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, civil rights, tariffs, the opioid epidemic and net neutrality.

“Good citizenship means when you see a problem, you step up to fix it,” said Dady, as she explained why she was running for Congress.

Dady will be in Amboy for the Depot Days Firemen’s Breakfast at the Fire Station, 25 N. East Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 25.
