AMBOY — On Saturday, Oct. 13, Amboy Arts and Antiques shop will celebrate the comeback of Shirley Guay after undergoing two hand surgeries. Guay had a condition called Dupuytrin’s Contracture in each hand, where a knots the tissue in the palm of the hand eventually pulling the fingers into a curled position. She underwent surgery to correct the problem. The surgery on the right hand was successful, but the left hand was left with limited mobility.

An artist since her early forties, Guay has worked hard to return to her passion and has completed a collection of collages that she has named “Recuperation 100.” She became an artist after taking several sessions of art classes at a junior college on Michigan Ave. She learned many techniques during her classes and was encouraged by her professors. She and business partner Rosalie Koldan, started coming to Woodhaven 20 years ago and opened Amboy Arts and Antiques 13 years ago.

Guay participates in many local art shows and has received many awards.

“I am happy to be in a place that I can create again,” said Guay. The collection consists of 100, 5 x 7 collages that are matted and framed and will be available for purchase at Amboy Arts and Antiques at a cost of $40 each.

The open house will be held from 6 -8 p.m. All are welcome to stop by and join them for beverages and Hors d’Oeuvres. The art work will be on display in a special display.
Other businesses are offering specials Saturday night during the open house. Long Branch is offering a free appetizer with the purchase of a dinner and Maria’s pizza is offering $2 off the cost of a large pizza.
