AMBOY – The Amboy-LaMoille wrestling team has hit the mats hard as of late.
On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Clippers battled West Carroll and Freeport in a triangular at West Carroll.
Earning points against West Carroll were Aden Spinelli (106 pounds, pin), Chase Huggins (126, forfeit), Chase Montavon (132, pin), Josh McKendry (138, forfeit), and LaMoille’s Evan Flanagan (215, forfeit).
Against Freeport, Ty Florschuetz (120, pin), Montavon (132, pin), McKendry (138, forfeit), Caiden Heath (144, pin), and Flanagan (215, pin), scored pins for the Clippers.
Two days later, Saturday, Dec. 21, eight Amboy wrestlers competed at the 16-team Stillman Valley Holiday Tournament and six of those eight left with medals.
McKendry (138 pounds) and Heath (144) took third. Spinelli (106) and Florschuetz (120) finished fourth. Flanagan was fifth at 215 and Montavon was sixth at 132.
In the Stillman Valley junior varsity tournament, Keaton Thompson earned a third-place medal at 138 pounds.
