Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS breaks records

WALNUT – Co-directors of the 2024 Walknut 5K Run/Walk for ALS had a lot to praise about their event Satuday, July 6.

Kristie (Monier) Cady, Brad Monier, Hillary (Monier) Childs, and Jordan Monier reported the 2024 5K broke many records.

Registrations passed the 700 mark with 728, which bests the previous record of 541. There were runners/walkers from two countries, 17 states, and 115 cities including Luxembourg, Massachusetts, California, and all over Illinois and the Illinois Valley.

There were 646 finishers, which broke the previous record of 457.

Donations reached $24,346.86 to make the total proceeds since 2011reach $173,990.59.

All proceeds are donated to ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI). The ALS TDI is the world’s foremost drug discovery lab focused solely on ALS. As a non-profit biotech, ALS TDI operates without regard to profit or politics. Led by drug development experts and people with ALS, the Watertown, Massachusetts based lab is funded by a global network of supporters unified to end ALS. Their mission is to discover and develop effective treatment for ALS.

The co-directors thank the Walnut Fire Department and the Walnut Police Department for keeping everyone involved with the 2024 Walnut 5K safe and sound.

The next Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS will be Saturday July 5, 2025.
