AMBOY – The Amboy volleyball team started the seventh week of the IHSA season by traveling to Faith Christian for a non-conference match on Monday, Oct. 7.
The Lady Clippers lost in two sets, 25-20, 25-23, while the junior varsity team won 26-24, 25-8. Faith Christian does not have a freshman team.
The very next day, Tuesday, Oct. 8, Amboy secured one of its many highlights of the season when it defeated previously undefeated, Eastland, in three sets, 25-23, 12-25, 26-24.
In the big team win, senior Tyrah Vaessen recorded eight kills, five digs, and four blocks, junior Kiera Karlson tallied six kills and four blocks, junior Peyton Payne added three kills and three blocks, junior Jillian Anderson had three kills, two aces, and four digs, and junior Jadyn Whelchel notched 23 assists.
Defensively, senior Emersyn Noble and junior Ellie McLaughlin had 10 and eight digs, respectively.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, Amboy traveled to Ashton-Franklin Center for a NUIC conference game.
The varsity squad was victorious 25-10, 25-13 behind Anderson’s five kills, five digs, and an ace, Vaessen’s three kills and three blocks, and Karlson’s six aces, two kills, and two blocks.
The junior varsity beat the Lady Raiders 25-16, 25-23, while the freshman fell 25-17, 25-15.
