AMBOY – Tragedy occurred Monday, June 2 in Amboy when a man trimming trees was struck by a power line exposed after impact of a fallen branch.

The man, who was electrocuted to death, was identified as Daniel Hicks, 55, of Earlville, by the Lee County Coroner’s Office.

Amboy Fire Protection District received the medical call first and was joined by the Sublette and Dixon departments.

Amboy Fire Chief Duane Dickison stated his team did what it could under the circumstances.

“He was trimming a tree, and he came in contact with a power line and was electrocuted. He was alive when we got there,” Dickison said. “The power was not turned off quick enough by ComEd to the exposed power line. Once the power was off, we did what we could do, but we also have to take care of our people and keep them safe.”
