AMBOY – Amboy senior, now graduated, Tyrah Vaessen had her name toward the top of the Amboy softball team’s stat book all season long.
Because of her numbers, Vaessen is the first name listed on the 2005 Illinois Coaches Association Class 1A All-State Softball Second Team.
“Tyrah has been a workhorse for four years for our program,” said Amboy softball coach Kelly Whitman. “She has been a leader on both offense and defense every year. Second team is quite an honor and well deserved. It’s the perfect way to end her senior year.”
Junior Kiera Karlson joined Vaessen on the Northern Upstate Illini Conference South Division First Team, while junior Peyton Payne and sophomore Leighton Gulley were named to the second team.
On the season, Vaessen had a .5673 batting average with 49 hits, 24 singles, 22 doubles, two triples, a home run, 38 runs scored and 12 RBI. Karlson hit a .450 average with 36 hits, 24 singles, nine doubles, two triples, one home run, 30 runs scored and 26 RBI.
