AMBOY — Austin Shugars, son of Angela and Jeremy Shugars, has been named the Amboy High School Student of the Month for October.
Memberships and Involvement: “I have been class Vice President all 4 years. I am also our National Honor Society Treasurer and two-year member. Other things I’m involved in are Student Council, Art Club, Baseball, Fall Play, and Spring Musical. I’ve also helped out with the Little Clippers Baseball Camp for the last two years. I was also a member of our Academic Bowl Team for my first two years.”
Awards and Honors: “I had perfect attendance last school year. I also made the President’s and Dean’s lists at SVCC for the last school year, and the Highest and High Honors lists for all four years. I also won Best Actor for the ‘21 and ‘22 Fall Play, Best Actor in a Lead Role and Best New Face for ‘23 Spring Musical, as well as Academic All-Conference for the ‘22-’23 school year.”
Best Memories of AHS: “My first major role in a spring musical was a pretty memorable experience. I was always afraid to sing in front of people so I played a role with only one line and about five seconds of stage time in my first musical about five or six years ago, then auditioned for the musical earlier this year where I played a lead role and really pushed myself out of my comfort zone.
“Going to watch the state football game last year was also a good time. Even though it was crazy cold that night, it was still fun to go and support the guys at the end of their season as they did something that hadn’t been done for years at our school.”
Future Plans: “I’d like to attend a four-year college somewhere. I’ve looked into a few but haven’t decided on any yet. I’m also undecided on what I want to major in but I’ve considered history and criminal justice.”
The First National Bank in Amboy Student of the Month is chosen by Amboy High School faculty and a scholarship is awarded by The First National Bank in Amboy.
