Railroad victim identified

LEE COUNTY – An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 25 on the male victim of the train fatality found Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Fingerprint records identified the victim as being 31-year-old Omar Arroyo, of Chicago.

Investigators were able to locate family members in Chicago and notify them of his passing. The investigation into the incident revealed Mr. Arroyo jumped in front of the train as it approached.

The incident took place at 8:10 .m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 when the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a male trespassing on the railroad tracks. The subject was walking along the tracks about a mile west of Wadsworth Way and Railway Road near Nelson.

Deputies located the body of the male along the railroad tracks, and it was determined he had been struck by a passing train. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Illinois State Police – Crime Scene Services, the Dixon Rural Fire Department, the Dixon City Fire Department, the Lee County Coroner’s Office, and Union Pacific Railroad.
