AMBOY – Similiar to years past, the Amboy American Legion Post #453 will perform its traditional Memorial Day services for both Amboy and Sublette on the national holiday, Monday, May 26.
The honoring of veterans of the United States of America military starts at 10 a.m. at Veternas Park in Amboy. The American Legion will host a guest speaker, present the colors and perform the 21-gun salute.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Ellice Dinges Center in Sublette where there will be a guest speaker and the legion will once again honor veterans with their tribute.
LEE CENTER – The First Congregational United Church of Christ of Lee Center, in cooperation with Amboy American Legion Post #453 and the Woodside Cemetery Board, will hold their annual Memorial Day service at the Woodside Cemetery on Sunday, May 25.
The service starts at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery near the American Flagpole. This memorial service is to honor and recognize our veterans of the past and present for their countless hours of sacrifice and unending courage to secure the freedoms we all enjoy in our wonderful country.
Pastor Jack Briggs from the First Congregational Church will provide us with an inspiring reflection of the days’ service. The “Reading of the Honor Roll,” of approximately 170 names of veterans from Woodside Cemetery and Inlet
Cemetery will be completed by two guest speakers.
The Amboy American Legion Posts #453 has participated in this service for more than 25 years and could once again grace us with their leadership and presentation of Arms and Taps at the end of service.
An offering will be collected, and all donations will be given to the Amboy American Legion Post #453 to help fund their community projects.
Special thanks are extended to Sandy Wittenauer for volunteering to place flags on all the veterans’ graves in this cemetery and to the family of Howard Schnell for the flag that is flown at the cemetery for his years of service in the Army.
A hearty thank you is also extended to all the cemetery groundskeepers who keep it looking nice throughout the growing season.
