AMBOY – The Amboy Lady Clippers opened their NUIC play with a hard-fought 35-31 win over Forreston on Dec. 6 at the AHS gym.
It was a good team win with five players scoring between four and 11 points. There were also four players with between five and nine rebounds and four players had two or three assists.
The balanced scoring attack was led by Maeve Larson with 11 points as she scored in every quarter. Larson added five rebounds. Emily Sachs gave her team a big boost in the second half while scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds. Next in scoring was Elly Jones. She dropped in four free throws late in the contest to help preserve the victory. Jones ended with seven points, two assists and two steals. Addison Pertell scored five points, dished out two assists and had three steals, followed by Tyrah Vaessen with four points, nine rebounds, three assists and five steals. Courtney Ortgiesen pulled down six boards and had two assists.
Besides Jones’ key charity tosses, Larson made two big fourth-quarter shots and Sachs connected on a big shot down the stretch.
The Lady Clippers improved to 7-1 on the season and are off until Tuesday, Dec. 20 when they travel to Manlius to take on Bureau Valley.
