DIXON — John Jay Partington, 84, of Dixon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at Heritage Square, Dixon. He worked as an iron worker for Local 498, Rockford for many years prior to his retirement, receiving his 45 year pin this year.
John was born, July 11, 1935, in Amboy, the son of Jesse and Anna (Griffith) Partington. He married June Kent on Aug. 9, 1969 in Dixon. John served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the American Legion Post 12, Dixon.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise (John) Roop, of Minooka; son, Tim (Krista) Morrissey, of Hartland, Wis.; one brother, Jesse M. (Ronda) Partington, of Dixon; three sisters, Betty North, Joyce (Mort) Burkhart, both of Dixon, Janice (Arlan) Ayres, of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Sandra (Dennis Donna) Morrissey, of Dixon; 11 grandchildren, Brady Morrissey, Christian (Brittany) Morrissey, Trace Morrissey, Kim (Anthony) Brick, Kelly (Scott) Payne, Shawn (Connie) Haley, Ryan (Natasha) Haley, Marissa (Brandon) Svela, Nathan (Desiree) Haley, Taylor Roop, Alex Roop; and 15 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Regina Karceski; one son, Tom Morrissey; two brothers, James Partington and Patrick Partington; two sisters, Alvera Forney, and Lila Burhenn; and two brothers-in-law, Edwin "Butch" North, and Ray Forney.
Memorial visitation will be held 9 - 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at the funeral home, with Rev. Richard Kramer, officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harmon, with full military rites provided by the combined military organizations.
Memorials may be directed to St. Flannen's Catholic Church, Harmon; or Harmon Fire Department.
