Jean M. Ritola

SUBLETTE — Jean M. Ritola, 92, of Woodhaven Lakes Sublette, formerly of Dolton, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 12, 2022.

Jean was born June 20, 1930 in Chicago. She was the devoted daughter of John and Mary (Rakausky) Antanaitis, and step daughter of Marie (Sweeney) Antanaitis. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Jean was an active church member. Pre-Covid, Jean volunteered in the church office where she “went to work” three days a week.

Jean married the love of her life, the late Raymond Ritola, on Dec. 4, 1948, in Chicago following a 3-month courtship. 

Jean was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Michael; brothers, John and Philip Antanaitis. 

Jean is survived by her children, Philip (Cynthia) Ritola, of Cheshire, Conn., Carl (Gail) Ritola, of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Mary Lynn Valentin of Sublette, and Susan (Paul) Novosel, of Crete; grandchildren, Erin (Andrew Averna) Ritola, Sara (William) Foley, Raymond Ritola, Matthew Novosel and Alexander (Brieanna) Ritola; and great-grandchildren, Auriana and Killian. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Visitation is in the Church Monday from 9 a.m until time of service. 

Arrangements by the Wasmer Funeral Home in Mendota. 

Burial will be at a later date in Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood.
