Florida – James G. Montavon, 90, of Dixon, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025 at Ascension Sacred Heart Emergency Care and Trauma Center in Florida.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. A memorial has been established to St. Mary Catholic School in Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Condolences can be left at www.thejonesfh.com.

Montavon was born on Dec. 3, 1934 in West Brooklyn, the son of George and Catherine (Boyle) Montavon.

James was an operating engineer for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 for over 25 years. In retirement, he sold real estate for Henning Real Estate.

Montavon was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight and Fr. Boland Assemble of the 4th Degree. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the American Legion, Dixon Elks Club, and served on the Dixon City Council.

James married Janet Nauman on July 11, 1959 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Montavon is preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry Montavon, sister Donna Rapp, and brother Richard Montavon.

James is survived by his wife Janet, children Rhonda (Thomas) Boesen of Indianapolis IN, Jeffrey (Annabella) Montavon of Dixon, Jay (Jenny) Montavon of Wilkesboro NC, Renea McHugh of Dixon, Jill Benard of Stillwater MN, 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, brother Peter Montavon of Aurora, and sister Mary Jo Harms of Somonauk.
