AMBOY – Daunting could have been used to describe the schedule for the Amboy girls basketball team this past week.
Instead, the Lady Clippers took advantage of their opportunities and won three games in four days.
Amboy defeated Somonauk 41-39 on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at home, Fulton 47-23 on Friday, Jan. 10 at home, and Dakota 40-33 on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Eastland Shootout.
After the week, the Lady Clippers are on a four-game winning streak and have a 13-6 record.
Against Somonauk, the difference between the team scoring after every quarter was three points or less except the third quarter (14-13 Amboy after the first, 23-20 Amboy at halftime, and the two-point win) when Amboy took the quarter by seven points, 34-27.
Senior Addison Pertell scored a team-high 13 points, senior Tyrah Vaessen and junior Jillian Anderson had eight points each, senior Emily Sachs and junior Bella Yanos added four points each, and junior Ellie McLaughlin and sophomore Alexa McKendry chipped in two each.
Yanos led the squad with 10 rebounds and Pertell had a team-high two assists.
The stat lines for the Lady Clippers were impressive in the win against Fulton as Vaessen had 15 rebounds, five steals, and three assists to go with nine points, Pertell scored 10 points, Anderson had nine points and five steals, Sachs had 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, and Yanos tallied 15 rebounds, seven points, and six steals.
In the seven-point victory over Dakota, Vaessen recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, along with three assists, while Pertell led the team with 14 points, Sachs scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds, Yanos added six, and Anderson dished four assists and tallied three points.
