AMBOY – With the IHSA Class 1A St. Bede Reginal tipping off Saturday, Feb. 15, the Amboy girls basketball team is trying to gather all the momentum the squad can.
The girls and coach Mike McCracken are grabbing all the momentum as Amboy is currently on a three-game winning streak and has one loss in its last 11 contests.
The Lady Clippers downed Ashton-Franklin Center, 50-14, Tuesday, Jan. 28 with the help of a 13-rebound and 10-point double-double, as well as three assists, from senior Tyrah Vaessen and 14 points and five rebounds from senior Addison Pertell.
In a 47-29 victory over Stockton on Saturday, Feb. 1, Pertell tallied 17 points, junior Bella Yanos yanked a team-high 14 rebounds, junior Jillian Anderson had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Vaessen snagged 10 rebounds.
Amboy outscored Millegdville 66-5 on Friday, Feb. 7 as 11 Lady Clippers recorded at least one point in the box score.
Vaessen led the way with 17, followed by Pertell (13), Yanos (nine), senior Emily Sachs (six), Anderson, senior Gloria Parker, and freshman Sydney Whelchel (four each), sophomore Maddie Althaus (three), and junior Ellie McLaughlin, senior Kenley Wilson, sophomore Aubrey Wells (two each).
The Lady Clippers are 20-7 with three games remaining on their regular season schedule (Monday, Feb. 10 at Fulton, Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Morrison, Thursday, Feb. 13 against Earlville at home) before their first regional game on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
