AMBOY – Coach Mike McCracken and his Amboy girls basketball team were ready to kick off the season during the Oregon Thanksgiving Tournament November 20-23 in Oregon.
Amboy began the season posting a 2-2 record during the tournament with wins against Rochelle, 59-47, and Oregon, 46-36, while falling to Genoa-Kingston, 34-32, and Elgin St. Edwards, 55-27.
The Lady Clippers had three players in double-digit scoring against Rochelle as junior Ellie McLaughlin led with 14, senior Emily Sachs had 13, and junior Jillian Anderson had 12. Senior Tyrah Vaessen had 11 rebounds and seven assists.
In the loss against Genoa-Kingston, Vaessen recorded a double-double of 15 rebounds and 10 points, while Sachs and junior Bella Yanos had five rebounds each. Senior Addison Pertell broke her thumb against the Lady Cogs and will miss action for the next 4-6 weeks.
Vaessen, Sachs, and McLaughlin each had six points against St. Edwards.
In the win over Oregon, sophomore Alexa McKendry led the Amboy scoring with 13 points, Anderson added 11, and Vaessen chipped in 10 to go with her 13 rebounds for a double-double. Sachs had 10 rebounds in the effort.
