George E. Schaible


AMBOY — George E. Schaible, 88, of Amboy, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday Jan. 31, 2019 at his home. 

He was born April 3, 1930 in Lombard, the son of Harold and Beatrice (Klusack) Schaible.  George was a truck driver and had driven for Elmhurst Chicago Stone, FS in Mendota and Consolidated Freightways in Peru. He served in the Illinois Air National Guard from 1951 to 1956. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oregon. George was a 4-H leader for 20 years, a scuba diving instructor for the YMCA, a CB enthusiast and  was a life time member of the NRA.

George enjoyed life to the fullest, which included horses, tractors, raising and showing sheep, family campfires, coffee around the kitchen table and most of all, being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George will be greatly missed by his family. However, he has left the beautiful legacy of unconditional love and the importance of always making time for those you love, with an open heart and a listening ear.

He married Lois Engelbrecht Oct. 27, 1951 in Wheaton, the love of his life for 67 years.

George is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Hal (Deb) Schaible, of Missoula, Mont., Gail (Doug) Kreiser, of Amboy, Linda (Jeff) Kagay, of Dixon, Dawn (Dan) Miller, of West Bend, Wis., and Kurt (Michelle) Schaible, of Oregon; grandchildren, Zach (Kelly) Schaible, Tanya (Tony) Aoyagi, Luke (Jenny) Schaible, Micah Schaible, Matthew (Vanessa) Schaible, George (Amy) Schaible, John Schaible, Brett (Ashley) Kreiser, Beth (Myles) Kukowski, Jill (Dan) Ofstie, Lane Kreiser, Clay Kreiser, Nellie (Mike) Zimmerman, Johnny (Britnae) Lewis, Jake (Courtney) Lewis, Ilka Lewis, Nate (Kellie) Miller, Josh Miller, Ben (Sarah) Miller, Nick Schaible, Jeremy Schaible, Julie Nichol, Autumn Schlafhauser and Jessica Hilliard; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kylie, Eleanor, Jessica, Morgan, Addie, Landon, Ty, Delaney, Hudson, Carson, Trey, Brooklyn, Rielyn, Briggs, Melanie, Grant, Clint, Sam, Brayden, Kaleb, Anna, Toby, Kendall, Hannah, and expecting three more great-grandchildren; and expecting one great-great-grandchild in 2019.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A celebration of George's life will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Oregon. Fellowship will follow at the church.
