BETTENDORF, IA – Donna M Sharkey, 88, formerly of Dixon, died Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to St. Anne School in Dixon. Condolences can be left at www.thejonesfh.com.
Sharkey was born Feb. 4, 1937 in Polo, the daugter of Glen and Pauline (Davison) James. After high school she worked at Watt Publishing in Mt. Morris for seven years, was a stay at home mom, and worked in the dietary department at the Franklin Grove nursing home prior to retirement.
Donna was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved baking, was an avid gardener and seamstress and a supporter of children’s charities.
She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon.
Donna married Kenneth Sharkey Sept. 8, 1962 in Amboy. He preceded her in death July 12, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Diana Sharkey, her parents, and her sister Barbara Peterson.
Sharkey is survived by her children Dave (Brenda) Sharkey of Dixon, Brian (Elizabeth) Sharkey of Bettendorf, IA, Barb (Peter) Vaessen of Sublette, nine grandchildren Camila (Greg) Lahey, Janessa (Nolan) Rappe, Hannah Sharkey, Megan (Dane) Reinhardt, Emily Sharkey, Madeline Vaessen, Natalie Vaessen, Ben Vaessen, Charlie Vaessen, four grea- grandchildren Kenadie Lahey, Kaydence Lahey, Briar Rappe and Maverick Rappe. She is also survived by a brother Tom (Barb) James.
