AMBOY — Daniel Long, 85, of Amboy, passed away Nov. 23, 2023, at his home early Thanksgiving morning.

He was born Dec. 13, 1937, in Dixon the son of Stephen and Mary Gladys (Swartz) Long. 

He was the second of six commonly refereed to as the "Tag-a-Longs." Danny grew up in Dixon attending St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Mary Grade School, and Community Catholic High School now Newman Central Catholic. Later he completed studies at Coppins Business College, Davenport Barbers College, Auctioneers School, and became a licensed electrician. As a teenager he entered the job market as a uniformed usher at the Dixon/Lee Theater. Later he would find employment with the Burlington Northern Railroad, as an instructor at the Davenport Barber School, he was an executive barber at the John Deere offices in Moline. He also operated his own barber shop for a time. Dan had been a licensed electrician in the Rockford area for over 30 years prior to retirement. He also served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Stephen Long; aunts, uncles; and one niece, Renee.

Dan is survived by one son, Shannon; three sisters, Nancy Morrissey, of Dixon, Mary Diane (Edmund) Archuleta, of Los Cruces, N.M., Maria Michele (Tom) Johnson, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one brother, David (Cheryl) Long, of Dixon; 11 nieces and nephews; and 22 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be from 9 – 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.
