Cross Country: Boys take second at NUIC Meet

PECATONICA – The Amboy boys and girls cross country teams got a taste of postseason running with the yearly preamble, the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference Meet Saturday, Oct. 19 at Pecatonica Middle School.

In the boys race, the Clippers finished second out of the six teams with a team score of 66 points. East Dubuque won the meet with 30 points.

Sophomore Henry Nichols led Amboy with a fifth-place run clocked in at 17:47.60. Senior Atticus Horner finished in 18:41.84 for 10th, sophomore Otto Horner was 14th in 18:53.24, sophomore Jhett Cowser came in 20th with a 19:43.36 and freshman Landon Carter was right behind Cowser with a 19:49.15 for 21st place.

The winner was sophomore Andrew Richardson from East Dubuque (16:44.27).

Amboy finished fourth out of five in the girls race with 73 points. East Dubuque won the contest with 28 points.

Seniors Addison Pertell and Natalie Pratt came in 10th and 11th, respectively, in times of 24:30 and 24:46. Also crossing the finish line a few steps apart were juniors Samantha Nauman and Grace Althaus as they took 16th and 17th, respectively, in 25:17 and 25:27.
