Clippers fall to Bureau Valley, Somonauk


AMBOY — Amboy fell behind early and suffered a 69-35 loss to Bureau Valley in varsity boys’ basketball action on Dec. 13 at the AHS gym.

The Clippers were down 14-5 after the opening stanza and then Bureau Valley went on a 29-8 scoring binge in the second period to take a 43-13 halftime lead.

Wes Wilson led Amboy in scoring with 14 points. He connected on four shots from three-point land. Troy Anderson added a pair of treys and finished with 10 tallies, while Garrett Pertell (seven points) and Kyler McNinch (four points) finished out the scoring.


The Clippers couldn’t maintain a fourth-quarter lead and dropped a 57-42 decision at Somonauk on Dec. 16.

After trailing 32-19 at the half, Amboy staged a furious third-quarter rally when it outscored Somonauk, 20-6, to take a 39-38 lead after three periods. Wilson keyed the comeback with three three-pointers in the frame. But the roles were reversed in the fourth quarter as the Clippers went cold with just three points while the Bobcats burned the net for 19 points.

Wilson finished with a team-high 14 points, while McNinch (12) and Anderson (10) also hit double figures.
