Clippers deliver a home win against Ashton-Franklin Center

AMBOY – The Amboy Clippers got a much-needed 58-38 triumph over Ashton-Franklin Center is varsity boys’ basketball action on Jan. 31 at the AHS gym.

A quick start sparked the Clippers as they zoomed out to a 17-3 first-quarter lead behind eight points from Tucker Lindenmeyer, including a pair of successful three-pointers. Amboy continued to build on the margin in the second period and took a 31-17 advantage to the locker room. The count was 43-30 heading to the fourth.

Brennan Blaine led three Clippers in double-digit scoring with 13 points, followed by Connor Simpson with 12 and Lindenmeyer with 10. Ian Eller helped out with nine tallies.

A mighty Fulton squad visited the AHS gym on Feb. 1 and returned home with a lopsided 60-16 verdict over the Clippers.

Amboy scored half of its points in the first quarter and trailed 23-8. The Steamers upped the count to 43-13 at the half, and then the Clippers managed just three points in the second half, all in the fourth period.

Blaine had four points and Lindenmeyer contributed three for the Clippers.

Forreston rallied in the second half to post a 57-46 win over Amboy on Feb. 3 at the AHS gym.

The Clippers turned an 11-6 first-quarter deficit into a 20-19 halftime lead, but they couldn’t maintain the advantage in the second half. Forreston held a 34-29 margin after three periods and pulled away in the fourth frame.

Three Clippers scored in double figures, paced by Simpson with 17 markers. He connected on a trio of three-pointers. Lindenmeyer was next with 13 points and Blaine dropped in 12.
