Clippers compete on the court

AMBOY — Fulton rolled up a 67-24 win over the Amboy Clippers in varsity boys’ basketball action on Feb. 7 at Fulton.

The Steamers took control from the opening tip, racing out to a 21-3 lead after the first quarter. The count was 38-10 at the half and 63-18 with one quarter to play.

Caden Wittenauer had seven points to lead the Clippers, while Ian Eller added five markers.

Amboy and Ashton-Franklin Center played a tight game throughout that eventually went to the Clippers, 55-50, on Feb. 9 at Ashton.

After playing to a 16-16 tie at the end of one, the Clippers held leads of three and four points at the end of the next two quarters, and managed to hold on in the fourth.

Amboy had a balanced scoring attack, led by Brennan Blaine with 16 points. Ian Eller was next with 11 markers, followed by Kyler McNinch with 10, and Haden McCoy and Tucker Lindenmeyer with eight apiece.

Amboy lost a tough battle at Milledgeville, 69-67, on Feb. 11.

The Clippers zoomed out to 15-4 lead after the opening stanza and took a commanding 37-16 advantage to the locker room. But the Missiles heated up in a big way in the second half, scoring 28 points in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth to pull out the improbably win.

Blaine had the hot hand for the Clippers with 23 points, while Lindenmeyer fired in four three-pointers on his way to a 19-point output. Connor Simpson chipped in with 15 tallies.
