AMBOY – If you walk into the indoor Amboy High School gymnasium door on the northwest end and look at the wall on the right, you’ll see a sign.

It has photos of Amboy senior Eddie Jones and has a giant, bold 1,000 across the top.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 against Ashton-Franklin Center, Jones needed six points to reach the milestone of 1,000 career points. He finished with 31in the Amboy 61-46 victory to give him a total of 1,025.

“It’s really special. I’ve put in a lot of work and dedication to basketball and scoring 1,000 career points helps show me how much the extra work has paid off,” Jones said. “I’ve played varsity basketball since I was a sophomore and this was always in the back of my mind, but it was never a big priority.

“Once I got close I wanted to do it and my teammates helped me reach the milestone. I want to thank my coaches, my teammates, and my parents. Without them helping me along the way, I don’t think I would have done it.”

In the two games he became the eighth Clipper to reach 1,000 career points, he scored 27 against Morrison in a 57-52 loss on February 6 and 25 in an overtime loss, 61-52, to St. Bede on February 8.

Entering the last five regular season games and the postseason of his senior campaign, Jones sits at 1.077 career points.

“It’s pretty cool for him to be the eighth Amboy boys basketball player to reach 1,000 points,” said Amboy boys basketball coach Tyson Powers. “For Eddie to reach the accomplishment and to do it on our home floor is pretty cool as well.

“I’ve watched Eddie grow up since he was a little guy, so it was pretty special for me to be a part of it. He has worked really hard. I told him after the game, ‘Hard work gets rewarded.’”
