Boys basketball: Clippers win first boys hoops game of the season

AMBOY – The Amboy boys basketball team started the season just the way it wanted it to as the Clippers won their first game of the season 57-37 against DePue Tuesday, Nov. 26 on the road.

The non-conference win was followed by three loses and another win for a 2-3 record five games into the season.

Amboy senior Eddie Jones scored a game high 23 points and dished nine assists, while freshman Bryson Deery had eight points and six rebounds, and junior Ezra Parker finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Game 2 of the season ended with a 56-21 loss to Northwest Upstate Illini Conference South Division foe Eastland on Monday, Dec. 2 at Eastland.

Parker led the Clippers with nine points.

The Clippers first home game of the season was Tuesday, Dec. 3 as they hosted non-conference opponent, Hinckley-Big Rock.

Amboy fell 66-30 to HBR, while being led by Jones’ eight points and Parker’s six points. Martin Ledbetter recorded a game high 24 points for the Royals.

The second win of the season, 37-31, came Saturday, Dec. 7 on the road in Ottawa against the Marquette Crusaders.

Jones led the way with 17 points, while Parker dropped 11.

In a nailbiter on Monday, Dec. 9 in Somonauk, the Clippers dropped a 44-43 result to the Bobcats. The game was close throughout as the Clippers led 13-9 after the first quarter, Somonauk held a one-point halftime advantage, 20-19, and the Bobcats held on to a 33-30 lead after three frames.

Jones led Amboy with 17 points, while senior Brody Christoffersen scored 11, and Deery and Parker added five each.

Game 6 of the season is a 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 non-conference contest against LaMoille at Amboy.
