Be sure to enter this year’s Amboy Christmas Lights Contest

AMBOY — We see lights everyday. In our homes. Outside of our homes. In and out of businesses. In schools. On our vehicles. Signs. Games. Phones. Computers. The list could keep going, going, going, and going.

But none of the other lights compare to Christmas lights.

“I was on the Amboy Chamber of Commerce for years when I first bought The Main Flower Shop in 2003,” said Cindy Shaw, who owns the flower shop with her husband, Jeff. “The town doesn’t have a chamber anymore and we used to always do a light contest through the chamber. It was always fun for the community. I just decided to bring it back, especially after the pandemic to make people happy.

“Everyone likes Christmas lights, they make us happy. I just wanted to bring something back to make people happy over the holidays,” Shaw said.

The light contest started Dec. 1 and will run through Dec. 14.

Monetary prizes will be awarded to first place ($100), second place ($75), and third place ($50). There will be many different areas to judge such as creativity, use of lights, color, and more.

Registering for the contest is as easy as a phone call to The Main Flower Shop at 815-857-3545.

“You just have to call and give a name, phone number, and address. The contest started Dec. 1 and it will run until Dec. 14,” Cindy Shaw said. “We will drive to their home and judge the lights before Dec. 14. It won’t just be me, there will be three or four judges.”
