AMBOY – Winning ways continue for the Amboy baseball team as they beat Hinckley-Big Rock (8-4), Mercer County (6-5), and Oregon (10-0) in non-conference games to extend its record to 6-1.

Against HBR on Wednesday, March 26, senior catcher Quinn Leffelman drove in four runs on three hits. Leffelman’s double in the seventh inning scored three runs to follow up an RBI single in the third inning.

Starting pitcher Brody Christoffersen surrendered five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out eight and walking two. Sophomore Tanner Welch came in for relief and held HBR at bay.

“Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate,” said Amboy first-year coach Cade Sharp. “We accumulated eight walks in the game. Welch led us with two walks and Christoffersen collected two hits.”

Amboy held a four-run lead heading into the sixth inning of the game against Mercer County on Saturday, March 29 and were able to hold on to the one-run victory, 6-5.

Christoffersen, Leffelman, and Dillon Merriman each drove in a run for Amboy. Junior Rylan McNinch tallied three walks.

Senior Eddie Jones started on the mound giving up three hits and one run, while striking out six and walking four in four innings to earn the win. Both McNinch and Welch came to the mound in relief for the Clippers.
