Baseball: Amboy sluggers fall short against Morrison, Lena-Winslow

AMBOYIn a back-and-forth, high-scoring affair Tuesday, April 15 at Amboy, the Amboy baseball team fell to Morrison 14-10.

The game was tied 9-9 at the top of eighth inning when the Mustangs scored on a double from Collin Renkes. Morrison would then score four more runs as they compiled five runs in the inning to take a 14-9 advantage.

Both clubs recorded 13 hits each.

For Amboy, senior Brody Christoffersen had three RBI on 3-of-5 hitting. Senior Quinn Leffelman also had three hits, while seniors Eddie Jones and Caleb Shugars collected two hits each. Senior Dillon Merriman, junior Rylan McNinch, and sophomore Tanner Welch tallied two walks apiece.

Christoffersen was the starting pitcher giving up six hits and five runs (three earned) and striking out four and walking three in three innings of work.

Amboy (6-8) couldn’t keep up with Lena-Winslow as it lost 12-1 on Saturday, April 19 at Lena.

Senior Carson Barlow lost on the hill on five hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out two and walking none in two innings.

At the plate, Barlow was 2-of-2 while Leffelman went 1-of-3 with an RBI.
