AMBOY – The winter adventure known as the Amboy Christmas Walk is back.
Director of the Christmas Walk Committee Meghan Schamberger, Amboy City Clerk Melissa Eisenberg, and Amboy Deputy Clerk Shelley Behrends have brought back the usual attractions while adding some new peaks of interest to the Amboy Christmas Walk taking place 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
“We’re going to have something new this year with ice carvers. The ice carvers will be downtown at Santa’s Village, which is the Depot Museum parking lot,” said Schamberger.
“Also, the vendor show at Central School, which has different crafts and vendors, is going to have extended hours, 12-6 p.m. There will also be a Gingerbread House Contest at Central School.”
Along with the ice carvers, Santa’s Village will also include Santa Claus himself (Amanda Hintz Photography will take your photo with Santa at Santa’s Village from 4-6 p.m), food trucks and the second annual Amboy Christmas Walk Fun Run.
“We only had 12 people participate in the fun run last year, but I think it was because it was so new. I don’t think some people even knew we were doing it,” Schamberger said. “I think we’ll have more participants because more people are aware.”
Amboy Depot Museum will have a station to make your own locomotive ornament and candy canes and hot spiced cider. Amboy Family Restaurant will have pizza square samples, hot chocolate, and Markee Creations Popcorn for sale.
There will be a balloon artist, face painting, Mickey and Minnie, bounce houses, and Sweet Butts Cotton Candy at the Amboy Fire Department.
Amboy Food and Liquor will have food, liquor tasting, and face painting 4-7 p.m. Becker Detailing will host a open house with in-house giveaways.
Express Lane Shell will have hot chocolate and cookies, Inspired Home Décor & Gifts will have an open house with a Emerald Beauty Bar, while Johnson Tractor will host craft and vendors, photos with the Grinch by Enchanted Memory Photography, Folsom’s Cookie Decorating Kit, Build-A-Pet Clubhouse making Christmas Pets and Squishies, and the Alamo Food Truck.
“The businesses have really showed up. They come out in full force to help make it an event,” Schamberger said. “Without the businesses, the Amboy Christmas Walk would be nothing.”
Long Branch will have drink specials, Main Flower Shop will allow you to make an ornament for the wishing tree, and Christmas gift shopping.
Maria’s Pizza will have hot chocolate and cookies and an in-house giveaway for a Christmas dinner. Pankhurst Memorial Library is going to have a hot chocolate bar, Christmas cookies, and a Grinch craft.
Sensient Flavors will have eggnog and snacks, St. Patrick Church is hosting a cookie walk from 3-7 p.m., Starlight Dance Studio will perform at Santa’s Village, and Teen Turf will have repurposing and decorating Christmas wreaths.
