PORT BYRON – Two Amboy Clipper golfers were able to extend their season after participating in the Port Byron Riverdale Class 1A Regional Golf Tournament on Sept. 29 at Byron Hills Golf Course in Port Byron.
Both Amboy golfers finished among the top 10 best scoring players who were not on a qualifying team. The Clippers’ Hayden Wittenauer shot an 82 and finished in fifth among those top 10 players, while teammate Wes Wilson carded an 84 and was sixth on that list. Jake Delaney of St. Bede was the top individual player not on a qualifying team with a 76.
The overall meet medalist was James Moorhusen of Riverdale with a 69. He led the Rams to the regional team title with a 310. Riverdale, Sterling Newman (332) and Fulton (343) all advanced their team to the sectional round.
Wittenauer and Wilson participated in the Byron Class 1A Sectional on Monday, Oct. 4. Neither golfer advanced to the state tournament which will be held Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9 at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
