William J. "Bill" Sheridan

DIXON — William J. "Bill" Sheridan, 93, of Dixon, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. 

He was born Feb. 10, 1929 in May Township, Lee County, the son of James and VeNira (Oester) Sheridan. Bill worked for Rein Schultz and Dahl for 35 years and was a member of IUOE Local 150 for over 55 years. He was a veteran of the Army. Bill was a member of St Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, the Sterling Moose Club, American Legion and the VFW. He also enjoyed attending the Thursday coffee clutch in Walton.

He married Helen "Minnie" Warkins on June 27, 1953 in Ohio, IL. She preceded him in death May 31, 2021. 

He is also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Sheridan; great-grandson, David Senneff; his parents; two brothers, Francis Sheridan and Gerald "Jerry" Sheridan; four sisters. Helen Sheridan, Patricia Sheridan, Shirley (Earl) Nauman, Margaret (Don) Delhotal; sisters in law, Kary Sheridan and Helen P. Sheridan; and brothers in law, Pat McCaffrey and Chuck Zimmerly.

Bill is survived by children, Ronald (June) Sheridan, of Sabula, Iowa, Don (Jodi Vance) Sheridan, Sr., of Dixon, and Mary (Mark Barnes) Sheridan, of Amboy; five grandchildren, Tanley (Tom) Meinsma, Ashlee (Mio Villalobos) Sheridan, Donald "Turtle" (Desiree) Sheridan Jr., Jillian Barnes, Reed Barnes; seven great-grandchildren, Oceanna, Kameron, Conner, Bryant, Sheridan, Kylee, and Hadley; and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, John "Jack" Sheridan, of Ohio, Thomas "Tom" Sheridan, of Harmon; two sisters, Helen McCaffrey and Marlene Zimmerly both of Amboy; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be on Thursday Jan. 12, 2023 beginning with a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the Jones Funeral Home followed by a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon.
